Dana was born in Los Angeles, but divides her time between NYC and LA. Being the daughter of Michael Jackson’s rhythm guitarist David Williams, Dana was immediately infatuated with music and her relationship with music began at a very early age. She began writing music as a child but it wasn’t until she was 13 that she felt compelled to play the guitar, which further enabled her to write her own music and accomplish her own sound. Her influences are vast and range from Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, to the Talking Heads, Iggy Pop, and Sam Cooke.

She attended Sarah Lawrence College in NYC where she was afforded the opportunity to study poetry, classical music, as well as jazz. Though she trained classically on the guitar, her passion remains in rhythm. Her days are consumed with music and overstepping musical boundaries and creating a type of bluesy-jazzy acoustic pop.

1. If you were stuck on an island what are the 5 things you couldn’t live without?
My guitar, a toothbrush, my pup, a journal and a supply of chocolate, although I’d have to ration it wisely.

2. Favorite to go outfit when in doubt.
Since I lived in NYC for so long I wear a lot of black. I would say my standard go to outfit is high-waisted black pants or shorts and a cropped tee, also black, and a pair of Ferragamo flats with socks.

3. Favorite quote?
“No two people on Earth are alike, and it’s got to be that way on music or it isn’t music.” – Billie Holiday

4. If you were a musician/rock star what would be your style?
I am! My style has been described as ethereal and bluesy. I think it’s pretty soulful. It’s hard to describe your own music though.

5. If you could go back in time and live a week in a fashion era, which one would it be?
I would like to be in the 60s with Jane Birkin’s wardrobe.

6. What style/clothing/outfit do you like your boy to wear?
I’m not sure what the style should be called. Just as long as he doesn’t look like he spent hours getting ready and is wearing clothes that fit properly. Something effortless but chic. I usually don’t like when men wear jewelry.

7. What’s in your purse?
My purse is small and for some reason it’s always filled with junk like tampons, antihistamines, an assortment of lipsticks, oh yeah and my wallet and a note pad.

8. Favorite perfume.
I’m pretty simple so I really enjoy the White Musk you can buy it at Whole Foods but also recently got this perfume that is ironically called “Not a Perfume” by Juliette has a Gun. I like minimalist scents.

9. What items in your closet can’t you live without.
My classic bow tie Ferragamo shoes, my nylon string guitar and my black high-waisted Cheap Monday jeans. They are all in my closet and I definitely couldn’t live without them.

10. As a child what candy bar would you kill for.
3 Musketeers. I can’t eat them anymore because they are too sweet. But I previously enjoyed them.
